Westlake graduate Lewis Guilbeau was selected to play and pitch in the Austin Area All-Star Game Monday night. The right-hander was thrilled to be a part of the game despite taking the loss in the 14-10 affair.
The Texas-State bound outfielder entered the game in the fifth inning and went 0-for-2. Then, he took the mound in the ninth inning as the north team surged ahead for the win over Guilbeau and the south team. An error led to the go-ahead run against Guilbeau in the ninth, and the north side tacked on three more to take the win.
“You meet new people, and it’s fun to interact,” he said. “The game is fun, but it’s also about meeting new people and having a good time.”
Guilbeau had the chance to play at the Dell Diamond once again and teamed up with some foes that he’s normally going against in district play.
“Robbie Dickey – he’s a district foe and I hate him when we play him – but I mean he’s a cool guy, and we’re friends now,” Guilbeau said. “There’s just a bunch of people like that now. You meet new people, and it’s fun to interact. The game is fun, but it’s also about meeting new people and having a good time We’re not playing anymore; we all graduated, so we just kind of laughed about it and kind of talked trash still. But I mean, we’re all in for good fun.”
